Twenty-eight (28) drug personalities were arrested during the week-long anti-illegal drugs operation through a region-wide Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) from June 6 until 12, 2022.
As per records of the Police Regional Office (PRO-8), the 28 arrested suspects include 19 persons on their drug watchlist and 9 unlisted drug personalities. Moreover, nine (9) of the watchlisted drug users voluntarily surrendered. A total of 70.14 grams of methamphetamine HCL or shabu estimated to value around P459, 325.50 were confiscated.
The Leyte Provincial Police Office (LPPO) tops the list of arrested drug personalities with ten (10), followed by the Tacloban City Police Office (Tacloban CPO) with eight (8). Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) and Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) recorded three (3) arrests each, Southern Leyte Provincial Police Office (SLPPO) tallied two (2) arrests while the Samar Police Provincial Office (Samar PPO) and the Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO) recorded a single (1) arrest each.
Under the leadership of Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac, the PRO-8 exerted more efforts in their campaign against illegal drugs. The operations targeted to eradicate, if not, minimize the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.
“We have intensified all our police operations to assure the community and public of their safety and security; however, the peace and order of every place is everybody’s concern. Thus, I am calling the public to be of help in the information gathering as to the whereabouts of criminals and illegal drug users and pushers. In that sense, those who are violating the law will be hesitant to continue their wrongdoings,” Gen Banac pointed out.
