The above titled article is actually the Theme of this year’s National Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Convention 2022 livestreamed via the official Facebook page of the DepEd Tayo – Youth Formation Division in partnership with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
Originally, a program conceptualized in 2004 and institutionalized in 2007 by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) of the Philippines thru its Board Regulation No. 5, s. 2007, Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) is already an integrated program of DepEd that is ably implemented and supervised by the Youth Formation Division under the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Youth Affairs and Special Concerns (OASYASC) as a student-driven, non-profit organization that promotes preventive education and information program for the youth to counter the dangers and ill effects of drug and substance abuse.
DepEd’s Schools Division of Leyte here in Region VIII for its part, is no neophyte in the implementation of the said program. In fact, one of its secondary schools in Dulag, Leyte, the Cabacungan National High School is a consistent national qualifier in the National Search for Outstanding Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Implementers in Secondary Schools for the past years and finally was able to bring home the bacon when it bagged the 4th Place Award for School Year 2018-2019. The award catapulted the school, the division, and the region among our country’s best program implementers and paved the way for the said school to be visited by the Youth Focal Coordinator of DepEd Region VIII together with the rest of the Youth Formation Coordinators from the other twelve (12) Division Offices for benchmarking of its best practices last October 2021.
