WCPD rescues victims of trafficking

Seven (7) females including one (1) minor were rescued by the Women and Child Protection Desk (WCPD) from allegedly trafficking in persons around 8:10PM April 12 at Brgy. 27 Juan Luna St. Tacloban City.


Police Regional Office (PRO-8) Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac disclosed that through a validated report from the Regional Intelligence Division, the victims were recruited and offered for sexual exploitation in exchange for sumptuous value of money. Rescued victims divulged poverty pushed them to enter and engage in such activity.


The WCPD arrested the suspect identified as Junalyn Solana Tomines, 28, with live-in partner and a housewife. She was a native of Brgy. Buenavista, Abuyog, Leyte but presently residing at Brgy. 62 Sagkahan, Tacloban City.


The rescued victims were immediately turned-over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for protective custody while the suspect is now under the custody of the Tacloban City Police Office – Police Station 2. Appropriate case/s were already filed at the City Prosecutors Office.


The said entrapment and rescue operation was carried out jointly by composite teams headed by PRO-8 WCPD Chief, Police Major Analiza C. Armeza, Police Lt. Marvien Bo of the Regional Intelligence Division, the WCPD of Tacloban City Police Office, Police Major Winrich Laya A. Lim of Tacloban City Police Station 2, Regional Legal Office Assistant Chief and Legal Officer Police Lt. Col. Anna Luisa A. Centino and the Regional Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-8) and the CSWDO of Tacloban City.


The PRO calls out to the public to report any information of sexual exploitation in their areas. "I am grateful for the immediate action of our police officers that saved the dignity and reputation of said victims. It's just sad to note that because of poverty they are easily swayed to these kinds of activities. To parents out there, please closely monitor your children," reminds Regional Director Banac.
