Twenty-five (25) local tourists supposedly planning to spend their weekend having fun with friends and families ended up being rescued after waters surrounding the resort rose past noon of April 10 at Brgy. Lundag, Merida, Leyte.
The rescued people were mostly residents of the said town who just wanted to spend their Sunday at Resort de Florencio. But as the water surrounding the resort rose, the management opted to call the Merida Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The Merida DRRMO together with the local Emergency Rescue Unit and the Bureau of Fire Protection responded and rescued the tourists to safety. They tied ropes from across the flowing river and assisted the people to cross the river safely.
