A police officer was killed when the 801st Maneuver Company figured themselves in crossfire against suspected members of the New People’s Army 6:40AM February 7 at Brgy. Look, Lapinig, Northern Samar.
The casualty was identified as Police Lt. Kenneth Tad-awan, a native of the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) and presently assigned at the 801st Maneuver Company of the 8th Regional Mobile Force Battalion based in Arteche, Eastern Samar.
Police report disclosed that two (2) groups of the 801st Maneuver Company were conducting preventive patrol at Brgy. Look, an upland barangay of Lapinig when they encountered an undetermined number of suspected members of the communist terrorist group (CTG). The two groups, led by Police Capt. Marval Diaz and Police Lt. Tad-awan, exchanged heavy gunfire against the suspected rebels. When the crossfire ceased, it was discovered the Tad-awan was hit with several gunshots that resulted to its instantaneous death.
The police later recovered an encampment planted with several improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Blood stains were also visible in the enemy location. As of press time, the 801st Maneuver Company launches a hot pursuit operation.
