San Pedro sends help to Agaton victims

Robet C. Dejon | April 25, 2022

Brgy. San Pedro, Albuera, Leyte Chairperson Jojie Ybañez and his constituents extended help and relief to barangays greatly affected by Typhoon Agaton last week.

The Tarucanons started their humanitarian mission at Brgy. Buenavista just across Brgy. Kantagnos which was wiped after landslides hit the barangay. The landslide in Kantagnos already recorded multiple casualties while many were still missing.

Kap. Ybañez disclosed that they brought in ten (10) sacks of relief provisions. Each sack contains sixteen (16) food packs inclusive of three (3) kilos of rice, instant noodles, canned goods, instant coffee, and sugar. These were sourced out from cash donations from his constituents who were now abroad and from his fish merchant friends at the Ormoc City Wet Market.

Ybañez revealed that when they started distribution during Maundy Thursday, another Tarucanon sent funds to supplement the relief operations for the Municipality of Abuyog.

Meanwhile, Buenavista Brgy. Chairwoman Mildred Subong expressed gratitude to the Tarucanons for the relief provisions they extended to them. She disclosed that families sought shelter at their barangay hall as Kantagnos was totally covered with mud. The relief provisions brought by the Tarucanons were even enjoyed by her own constituents.

Chairwoman Subong also disclosed that Kap. Ybañez and the Tarucanons were the first to conduct relief operations in Buenavista after Typhoon Agaton caused landslides in Kantagnos on April 10 which forced at least thirty-three (33) households to evacuate to Buenavista.

Meanwhile, another ninety (90) food packs and other relief goods were distributed in Brgy. Bunga, Baybay City.

Brgy. Bunga Chairperson Roldan Piedraverde expressed his utmost gratitude to Ybañez and the Tarucanons for their help despite being just another barangay. He disclosed that his barangay suffered eighteen (18) casualties due to the landslide but only seventeen (17) were retrieved. The 18th victim, a 35-year-old male, is still being searched.

Piedraverde also lauds the help that came into his barangay as they needed every help there is to augment their resources for their constituents who will have to stay longer in their covered court as their houses were ravaged by the landslide.
