Two (2) minors aboard a single motorcycle died after they rammed into a passenger bus around 5:45PM January 31 along the Maharlika Highway in Sto. Niño 1, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.

Police Regional Office (PRO-8) Spokesperson Police Lt. Ma. Bella Rentuaya identified the victims as Francis Dave Calhin Ybañez, 17, single and a resident of Brgy. Poblacion, Anahawan, Southern Leyte; and his back rider identified as Mark Jun Mangayon, 17, single and a resident of Brgy. Kagingkingan of Anahawan.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victims were from Anahawan aboard a red Honda XRM 125 with plate number 8190GW and headed for Hinunangan tailing a multicab with plate number MAP5570 manned by a certain Angel Molato Munoz Reas, 31, with live-in partner, a driver by profession and a resident of Pagsangsang, Abuyog, Leyte.

Upon reaching at the place of occurrence, Ybañez maneuvered to overtake the multicab and encroached to the opposite lane. However, the unsuspecting victim failed to notice a fast approaching CUL Transport Bus (Volvo truck bus) and rammed head-on to it instead. The collision caused the victims to be thrown away, hitting against the sidings of the multicab resulting to multiple severe injuries.

The CUL Transport Bus bearing plate number CAN2174 was manned by a Renato Balbida Losuegro, 56, and a resident of Brgy. Sampaloc, Sorsogon City.

Responding rescuers from the Hinunangan Emergency Response Team rushed the victims to the Zenon T. Lagumbay Memorial Hospital and the Hinunangan Community Hospital for medical attention but both were pronounced dead-on-arrival by Dra. Pamela Lagumbay and Dra. Maria Elija Redulla, respectively.

All vehicles involved in the accident were brought to the Hinunangan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
