An eatery owner died on the spot after he collided with an SUV around 07:45PM January 15 along the Maharlika Highway in Brgy. Bantigue, Ormoc City.
The casualty was identified as Arnel Blurecia y Viacruses, 30, married and a resident of Brgy. Tinag-an, Albuera, Leyte. The driver of the SUV was identified as Welfredo Espanola y Sareño, 78, married and a resident of Brgy. Bantigue.
Case investigator Police Staff Sergeant Willard Collera disclosed that the two (2) vehicles were traversing the national highway in opposite directions. The SUV, a Montero Sports GLX bearing plate number AMA-6268, just came out from their residence and headed for the city proper while the victim was aboard his Suzuki motorcycle headed for Albuera.
Upon reaching the place of incident, the victim overtook another vehicle unwary of the SUV on the other land, thus the collision.
The impact caused Blurecia to hit the road head-first resulting in his untimely demise. The collision also wrecked the motorcycle beyond description with its debris scattered all over the area.
Responding Ormoc Rescue brought the victim to the Ormoc District Hospital where he was declared dead-on-arrival (DoA).
Sergeant Collera revealed the victim came from Brgy. Dolores to visit a sibling and was heading home when the incident happened.
A negotiation between the victim’s kin and the driver is set to be conducted soonest.
