Local authorities are in the thick of an investigation regarding the killing of a businessman while aboard his tricycle around 6:50PM June 4 along the Oquendo-Catarman Road of Brgy. Poblacion, Oquendo District, Calbayog City.
The victim was identified as Joner Bartolome, 41, married, self-employed and a resident of the aforementioned barangay.
Police disclosed that they received information from a concerned citizen of a shooting incident in the said area. Led by Police Staff Sergeant Ronaldo Rojo, elements from the Oquendo Police Station immediately responded to verify the said report. Upon arrival, they saw the bloody and lifeless victim lying on the ground with his right leg hanging on his tricycle.
Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect was aboard his tricycle and parked in front of his sari-sari store in Oquendo. Unsuspiciously, the suspect approached the victim and peppered him with gunshots. According to witnesses, after the incident, the suspect quickly boarded a single motorcycle driven by his cohort and fled heading north.
The police immediately launched a hot pursuit operation but to futile results.
Residents around the area suspected that the victim was held-up since he owned the biggest store in the area. Such angle of the crime however remains in consideration as police are still conducting a thorough investigation regarding the shooting incident.
