Rebel leader surrenders

Robert C. Dejon | March 3, 2022

A team leader of the communist-terrorist group (CTG) in the region surrendered to authorities headed by PRO-8 Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac at Brgy. Dumalo-ong, Gandara, Samar, February 22.

The surrenderee was identified as Alias Yamog/Clem, 24, with common-law wife, jobless and a resident of Brgy. San Antonio, Gandara. He was the team leader of Squad 1 SYP Platoon Zandrew, FC-2, SRC Emporium.

Along his surrender, he also handed over his firearms; one (1) 9mm Smith and Wesson revolver with defaced serial number, five (5) live ammunition and one (1) fragmentation grenade.

The surrenderee decided to lay down his arm to authorities of the Samar Police Provincial Office headed by Police Captain Michael Ray G. Cañete together with the 802nd Mobile Company (MC), Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-8) headed by Police Major Norman A. Kiat-ong, Jr., and the Gandara Municipal Police Station (Gandara MPS) headed by Police Lt. Norben D. Carbonera.

He is now under the custody of the Gandara MPS while authorities already endorsed him to avail the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for former rebels.

"We are consistent with our pursuit to stop armed conflict in the region and prevent any atrocities committed by the communist terrorist group. It would be best to convince more rebels to withdraw their support to the CPP-NDF-NPA and finally clear their minds, come out from their hideouts and surrender. Through the programs of the NTF-ELCAC, I am more confident that more NPA will be persuaded to bring back their trust to the government," Gen. Banac emphasized as he pleas to the public to continue striving for peace, progress and prosperity.
