Police Regional Office (PRO-8) Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac personally visited and inspected the Port of San Ricardo and the Port of Liloan, both in the Province of Southern Leyte, June 3.
The visit was carried out following the recent bombings in Southern Mindanao apparently targeting public bus terminals. The bombings were allegedly carried out by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) carried by suspected Muslim terrorists, injuring civilians while inflicting damage to properties.
Thus, to prevent such incident from happening in the region, RD Banac firmly imposed heightened security measures and increased police visibility along seaports to ensure security and safety.
The ports of Liloan and San Ricardo are the gateways to Mindanao coming from Visayas and Luzon that’s why the police wanted these commercial ports to be safe always to users.
Accompanying RD Banac during the inspections were Southern Leyte Provincial Police Office (SLPPO) Director, Police Col. Hector Enage; Regional Logistics and Resource Development Division (R4) Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Police. Lt. Col. Reycel Carmelo D. Dayon; San Ricardo Municipal Police Station Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Felipe Franciso M. Gual; and Police Lt. Mark David D. Velmonte, COP of the Liloan Municipal Police Station.
"Public safety is our prime concern. I have ordered our EV cops to amplify alerts and establish regular on-site inspections in seaports and terminals to ward off bombing threats and incidents causing danger and panic," RD Banac pointed out.
