An estimated thirteen (13) grams of suspected shabu estimated to value around P90K were recovered from a vendor of rice cakes, locally known as puto, during a joint buy-bust operation around 4:40PM June 8 at Brgy. Pawing, Palo, Leyte.
The said operation was jointly launched by elements of the Leyte Provincial Police Office (LPPO), the LPPO-Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Station Drug Enforcement Team of the Palo Municipal Police Station.
Palo Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Col. Ricky Reli identified the suspect as Dante Ocop, 43, single, a puto vendor, and a resident of Brgy. 78 Marasbaras, Tacloban City. The suspect is tagged by local police as a High-Valued Individual.
Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing suspect shabu procured by an operative for P500.00. During the body search witnessed by barangay officials and media representatives, the searcher recovered seven (7) more sachets containing same suspected shabu, four (4) of which were large sachets called ‘bulto’ (bulk) estimated to weigh 13 grams and could worth around P90, 000.00. Also recovered from the suspect was one (1) P500.00 bill bearing serial number MV766026 prescribed by court for the said operation.
The suspect refused to issue statements to the media. But a police source disclosed that the suspect got his items allegedly from a detainee of an undisclosed jail. The source said that this inmate’s operation is both covert and stealthy and surveillances are already aplenty to arrest these persons in the right time.
Charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) are filed last Jun 9 at the Bulwagan ng Katarungan in Tacloban City, against the suspect who was temporarily detained at the detention cell of the Palo Municipal Police Station.
