An employee of the Leyte Provincial Capitol survived the ordeal but his companion got killed when figuring themselves in an ambush while traversing the bypass road along Zone 4, Brgy. 110 (Utap), Tacloban City around 9:30AM, December 14.
The casualty was identified as Gil Bobares, of legal age and married while the survivor was identified as Victorio Pindea, 51 years old and married. Both are residents of Brgy. San Ricardo, Babatngon, Leyte and are employees of the Leyte Provincial Capitol.
Initial investigation conducted by the local operatives disclosed that the two were aboard a gray Toyota Innova bearing plate number ZDU-426 heading towards the Provincial Capitol. They were coming from the northern part of Abucay and heading towards the Maharlika Highway when four (4) unidentified assailants aboard two (2) separate single motorcycles ambushed them along the place of incidence. The suspects strafed the victims inside their vehicle multiple times.
Bobares, who drove the vehicle, jumped out of the vehicle in attempt to escape but was peppered with gunshots that cause his instantaneous death. Pineda, meanwhile, managed to run and took cover from nearby houses, surviving the ordeal. The suspects were seen fleeing afterwards.
