Retired Police Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne R. Binag was the Guest of Honor and Speaker (GoHaS) as the PRO-8 jumpstarted the month-long 27th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month celebration last July 1 at the PRO-8 Grandstand.
The PCR Month is by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 764 signed January 2005 by then Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declaring July as PCR Month. This aimed to forge partnerships and strengthen community participation in the PNP’s programs and thrusts especially in community policing.
This year’s celebration, bearing the theme “Ugnayang Pulisya at Komunidad Tungo sa Mapayapa, Maayos at Maunlad na Pamayanan”, was kicked-off by a message and formal declaration by Regional Community Affairs and Development Division (RCADD) Acting Chief Police Col. Joel T. Serrano.
Several activities for the month-long celebration include Blood Letting Activity “Dugo Ko, Buhay Mo”; Seminar Workshop on Technical Writing and Public Speaking; Distribution of 600 water jugs; Seminar Workshop on International Mandates and National Laws of PWDs “PWD in a Day”; giving of assistance to one (1) identified PWD in celebration of the National Disability Week; Sining Bayanihan Regional Competition; and the Culmination Program and Awarding of Sining Bayanihan Regional Winners.
Meanwhile, Police Lt. Gen. Binag also graced the Closing Ceremonies of Bless Our Cops School Of Leadership Training, himself being the founding chairman of the Christian Offering Refrom in Philippine Society (CORPS) – My Brothers Keepers (MBK), and Bless Our Cops (BOC). It was attended by pastors, life coaches and SWIM Coordinators of PRO-8. A special presentation was also performed by the PRO-8 Dancers.
PRO-8 Regional Director Bernard M. Banac, in his message, said “As we celebrate the PCR month, let us give emphasis on the significance of a genuine police community partnership. One that is based on trust and collaboration which will eventually help us to better address peace and order in all of Eastern Visayas.”
