On June 1, Police Regional Office (PRO-8) Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac directed all unit commanders and chiefs-of-police (COP) under his jurisdiction to initiate proactive measures to deter any hostile actions by lawless elements.
The said order is in response to the recent explosion incidents at Isabela City, Basilan last May 30 which left one (1) civilian casualty.
To prevent such disaster to happen in the region, all police stations were conducting inspections to convergence areas tagged as potential terrorist targets. Such includes shopping malls, vital infrastructures, mass transport terminals, public markets, hotels, and schools. Police also intensified checkpoint and chokepoints in major thoroughfares and possible entry/exit points are being conducted.
Moreover, the Barangay Information Networks (BINs), Barangay Peace-Keeping Action Teams (BPATs), and other force multipliers have intensified their intelligence operations.
RD Banac directed all Deputy Provincial/City Directors for Operations to supervise the implementation of said directive. "Let us be more alert and cautious especially that these terrorists don't hesitate to create chaos anywhere they would please. Let us all be vigilant in our respective areas of responsibility to prevent any terrorist attacks."
