The Police Regional Office (PRO-8), headed by Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac, deployed 1695 personnel throughout the region to intensify security measures during the observance of the Holy Week from April 10-17.
The deployment of the said personnel aimed to ensure safety and security of the public as crowds and pilgrims were expected from devout Catholics especially during Palm Sunday and from Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday.
The said personnel were dispatched accordingly; 330 personnel were deployed in places of worship and devotion, 361 in markets, malls and commercial areas, and 221 in parks and community centers. In public terminals, 227 were deployed, 102 in seaports and 15 in airports. 316 personnel were also dispatched in 214 tourist destinations in the region. Another 123 personnel were deployed in 77 areas undergoing road constructions.
“This solemn occasion, regardless of our religion, is our chance to reflect and restore our faith. As we are still being confronted with the pandemic and the aftermath of disasters, may we never lose hope. May compassion, care and love for one another remain as our biggest weapon against all odds,” Gen Banac shared.
