PDEA scores P374K worth of shabu

Robert C. Dejon | June 22, 2022

As the country celebrated the 124th Philippine Independence Day, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-8) alongside a composite team of the Philippine Army and PNP tallied the biggest haul of suspected shabu during a joint buy-bust operation around 11PM June 12 at Brgy. Talisayan, Albuera, Leyte.

The said operation was spearheaded by the PDEA-8 and jointly launched by the 802nd Infantry (Peerless) Brigade Anti-Drug Unit, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), the Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Station Drug Enforcement Team of the Albuera Municipal Police Station.

PDEA-8 Regional Director Edgar Jubay identified the suspect as Alfredo Elegio, 21, single, jobless, and a resident of the said barangay. The PDEA categorized the suspect as a high-valued individual.

Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing suspected shabu procured by an agent for P500.00. During the body search witnessed by Brgy. Chairwoman Veluzminda P. Perez and this representation, the searcher recovered from the suspect a sling bag marked “Bench” that contained drug paraphernalia, one (1) red coin purse, one (1) blue-green Huawei cellphone and other personal belongings of the suspect.

When the agent opened the coin purse, he recovered one (1) P500.00 bill bearing serial number FF031725 prescribed by court for the said operation and a big pack containing suspected shabu with an estimated weight of 55 grams with a street value of around P374, 000.00.

The PDEA said that they were shocked by the magnitude of the items they’ve recovered from the suspect. While they know that the suspect is in possession of illegal drugs, they weren’t expecting it to be that huge. The identity of the suspect came after investigations of at least five (5) arrests conducted in the towns of Albuera and Kananga and the City of Ormoc all pointed him as the alleged supplier of illegal drugs.

The suspect, however, admitted that the recovered big pack was left to him on a concession basis by a friend last month of which he started to sell. He said he already left the vice last February but cannot resist the request of a friend whom he didn’t divulge due to close association.

Charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) are being prepared by the PDEA against the suspect who was temporarily detained at the Albuera Municipal Police Station.
