PDEA dismantles drug den in Tacloban

Eight (8) sachets containing suspected shabu estimated to worth P72, 000.00 were confiscated when a buy-bust operation dismantled a drug den around 4:30PM of December 11 at T. Claudio St., Brgy. 6, Tacloban City.


Operative from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the arrested suspects as Riel Toribio, Jason Bilgira, Ronald Sabalberino, Reymark Padua and Rexon Tañega, all of legal age and residents of the said barangay. Toribio is identified as the maintainer of the said drug den.



Subject of the operation was Toribio, who was reported to the Isumbong Mo Kay Wilkris (IMKW) program for allegedly maintaining a drug den in the said barangay. The PDEA launched a month-long surveillance on the suspect and discovered that indeed the suspect in involved in the illegal drug trade and used his rented house as drug den.


Recovered from Toribio was one (1) sachet containing white crystalline substances suspected to be shabu procured by an agent for P500.00. During the body search witnessed by barangay officials and representative from the media, the searcher recovered a “Mighty” cigarette pack in Toribio’s pocket along with cash of different denominations amounting to P760.00. Also recovered was the P500.00 bill bearing serial number FG 313636 prescribed by court for the said operation.



Inside the cigarette pack was a folded paper that yielded additional eight (8) sachets containing suspected shabu weighing 10.6119 grams with an estimated street value of P72, 000.00.


Toribio refused to issue statement to the media.


He is temporarily detained at the PDEA custodial facilities in Palo, Leyte while charges to violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) are being readied against them.



The confiscated contrabands turned out to be high-grade shabu after it underwent laboratory testing by the PDEA.
