A drug parolee was killed after trying to escape and trade gunshots with the elements of the Leyte Provincial Police Office – Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (LPPO-PDEU) during a buy-bust operation around 5:10PM June 21 at Brgy. Sagkahan, Carigara, Leyte.
Carigara Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Major Ambrosio Demain identified the suspect as Edward Rojas, of legal age, with live-in partner, and a resident of the said barangay. The suspect was tagged as a high-valued individual in the watch list of PRO-8.
Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing suspect shabu procured by an operative for P25, 000.00. However, after the consummation of the purchase of the illegal drugs, the suspect sensed that he was actually dealing with a cop and quickly disembarked from his motorcycle and ran towards a shrubbery portion of the area resulting to a hot pursuit. But when the suspect detected that he was already cornered, he allegedly pulled out a short firearm and trade gunshots with the pursuing operatives.
The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was brought by the Carigara Rescue to the Carigara District Hospital where attending physician Dr. Jurgen Pore declared him dead on arrival.
The operatives recovered from the suspect a bundle of money and a caliber .45 pistol with one (1) magazine.
