A parolee who just completed his two-year provision last Monday is back behind bars after being arrested during a joint buy-bust operation around 8:10AM June 22 at Brgy. Naghalin, Kananga, Leyte.
The said operation was jointly launched by the Leyte Provincial Police Office – Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (LPPO-PDEU), the 802nd Infantry (Peerless) Brigade Intelligence Support Team, and the Station Drug Enforcement Team of the Kananga Municipal Police Office.
Kananga Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Major Ariel Salarda identified the suspect as Michael Alegre, 44, separated, a hog buyer, and a resident of the said barangay. The suspect is tagged by the local police as a high-valued individual in their watch list operating in the town and the neighboring towns of the 4th District of Leyte.
Recovered from his possession was one (1) sachet containing suspected shabu procured by an operative worth P500.00. During the body search witnessed by Kagawad Benjie Bangcale of Brgy. Lonoy, Kananga and this representation, the searching cop recovered from the pocket of the suspect a cigarette pack that contained one (1) P500.00 bill along with one (1) folded paper.
When the said folded paper was opened, it yielded another five (5) sachets containing same suspected shabu estimated to weigh one (1) gram and a street value of around P6800.00. The recovered P500.00 bill bearing serial number NG688900 was prescribed by court for the said operation.
The suspect denied ownership of the confiscated evidences and said that it was planted by the police. However, the police reminded the suspect to stop blabbering as words uttered during the course of the operation could be used against him in court.
Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA9165) are being pressed against the suspect who was temporarily detained at the Kananga MPS detention cell.
