Local operatives are now launching a thorough investigation over the motive and identity of the culprits behind the assassination of a parole around 7:41PM February 23 along JPR Street, Purok 1, Brgy. Carmen, Calbayog City.
Calbayog Chief-of-Police (COP) Pol. Lt. Col. Teodulo Manatad III identified the casualty as Ruben Espelembero y De Pedro, 34, single and a resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Capoocan, here.
Police disclosed that Brgy. Kagawad Niño Aquino of Brgy. Matobato called their office to inform of a shooting incident along JPR Street. Led by Police Chief Master Sergeant Omarmuktar Abah, Operation PNCO, alongside personnel from the 43rd Infantry (We Search) Battalion, the operatives respond to verify the information and upon arrival at the area, witnessed the victim bathed in his own blood oozing from a headshot.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was heading home on foot when an unidentified suspect suddenly approached him and fired a gun to his head that resulted to his instant death. Thereafter, the suspect returned to his rider aboard a single motorcycle and fled from the crime scene. Elements of the Calbayog City Police Station immediately launched pursuit operations as all Police Community Precincts (PCPs) conducted checkpoints as to track and possibly arrest the fleeing suspects.
Recovered from the crime scene was one (1) fired cartridge case of an alleged caliber .45 subject for cross-matching examination. The cadaver of the victim was brought to a local funeral parlor for postmortem examination.
