Assorted undocumented lumber amounting to P134, 840.00 were seized in separate operations in San Roque and San Jose, Northern Samar, January 14.
In the Municipality of San Roque, the police force led by San Roque Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Nimrod R. Horales confiscated 147 pieces of lawaan lumber loaded on a dump truck and estimated to worth around P83, 040.00. The apprehended violators failed to present pertinent documents for the possession of the said lumber,
In San Juan, Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Marlo O. Capate caught an offender in flagrante delicto transporting undocumented and illegally-sawn lumber and finished products along the Maharlika Highway of barangays Aguadahan and Geratag. The recovered lumber was estimated to worth P51, 800.00.
Apprehended violators and the confiscated lumber were brought to their respective apprehending police stations for documentation. Charges to violations of the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines (P.D. 705) are filed against the suspects.
Newly-installed Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) Provincial Director Police Col. Alfredo J. Tadefa vowed to strengthen the campaign against illegal logging in the province. "I urge the public to help the authorities in strengthening the campaign against illegal logging since this is considered an intractable and recurring problem in the province. Under my watch, I will ensure that there will be more convictions among the violators," Col. Tadefa said, “I also encourage my chiefs of police and force commanders to perform and deliver accomplishments. That way, they can have my support. That is the basis of my leadership.”
