Three (3) sachets containing suspected shabu were recovered by operatives of the Station Drug Enforcement Team of the Bato Municipal Police Station during a buy-bust operation around 6:40PM June 16 at the Bato Wet Market, Brgy. Iniguihan, Bato, Leyte.
Bato Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Major Jayson P. Balbarona identified the suspect as Melbert Satentes, 36, and a resident of the said barangay. The police tagged the suspect as a street level individual.
Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing suspected shabu procured by an operative for P1000.00. During the body search witnessed by Hon. Romeo Yap and Hon. Marcos Zarco of Iniguihan and Eric Justiniane of West Leyte Weekly Express (WLWE), the searcher recovered one (1) container of Vicks Vapor Rub. Once opened, the container yields another two (2) sachets containing same suspected shabu estimated to value P2000.00. Also recovered was one (1) P1000.00 bill bearing serial number QY020997 prescribed by court for the said operation and cash in different denominations worth P68.00.
The suspect denied owning the confiscated evidences. But Major Balbarona told the media that the suspect will not be arrested without confirmation of his involvement of the illegal drug trade in the town.
Charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA9165) are being readied by the arresting police against the suspect who was temporarily detained at the Bato MPS.
