The Philippine Coast Guard – Northern Samar Station along with local fisher folks successfully rescued six passengers from a capsized motorboat around 1:30PM June 2 at the seawaters of Brgy. Ward 3, San Antonio, Northern Samar.
PNP PRO-8 Spokesperson Police Lt. Col. Ma. Bella Rentuaya identified the rescued crew as Jaime Escal Mondigo, 61, married, boat captain of M/B Crystal Sand 2; and Marcelino Abayon Fernandez, 42, single, motorboat crew. Both are residents of the aforementioned barangay.
The rescued passengers were identified as Gabriel Lontabo Esquillon, 54, married, electrical engineer assigned at NAPOCOR-San Antonio and a resident of Brgy. Ward 1 of the said town; Marlon Viral Mañalac, 50, married, job order employee of NAPOCOR-San Antonio; Benjie Amante Collamar, 29, single, security guard of NAPOCOR-San Antonio; and Ben Villanobos MNU, 48, single, security guard of NAPOCOR-San Antonio. Mañalc, Collamar and Villanobos were also residents of the said barangay.
Lt. Col. Rentuaya disclosed that reports reaching the PRO indicate that a concerned citizen called the attention of the San Antonio Municipal Police Station to report a capsized motorboat in the seawaters of Brgy. Ward 3. Accordingly, the motorboat was loaded with eleven (11) drums of diesel when they embarked in Victoria, Northern Samar and bound into the Island Municipality of San Antonio. Each drum contains twenty (20) liters of diesel.
However, upon reaching the seawaters of Brgy. Ward 3, the motorboat encountered rough waters along the coastline causing the boat to capsize.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard – Allen Station led the rescue and retrieval operations of the passengers and the transporting of the capsized motorboat to the shoreline.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
