A mentally-challenged person was found floating lifeless at the seawaters of Brgy. Atabay, Hilongos, Leyte about 6: 30PM, December 11.
The victim, whose identity wasn’t immediately known, was later identified as Hipolito Rapales, 58, single and a resident of Brgy. Paa of the same town.
The Hilongos Municipal Police Station said that a certain Romulo Mejia, of legal age and the chief tanod of Brgy. Paa, approached their station to report that his brother in-law, Rapales, was allegedly drowned to death at the aforementioned place. The local police immediately responded to the place to verify the said report.
Initial investigation by the responding operatives revealed that the victim was attempting to cross the seawaters from Brgy. Atabay to Brgy. Matapay of this town but the strong current weakened the victim that later resulted to his untimely demise. Fisherfolks who found the victim floating at the seawaters brought to the shoreline and tried to revive him, to futile results.
The local police coordinated with the Rural Health Unit (RHU-Hilongos) for a post mortem examination. The victim’s cadaver was later brought to a local funeral parlor after the examination that showed no foul play.
