After fourteen (14) years of hiding, a farmer accused of murder was arrested in his hiding place by joint operatives from the Matag-ob Municipal Police Station and the tracker team of the Ormoc City Police Station 3 around 3:45PM February 22 at Sitio Palinpinon, Brgy. Margen, Ormoc City.
Matag-ob Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Captain Alexander Alfonzo identified the suspect as Julito Tero, alias Jojo, 53, widower, a farmer and a resident of the aforementioned barangay.
The arrest was by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest issued by Hon. Lauro A.P. Castillo, Jr., Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 12, Ormoc City dated July 29, 2008 for the crime of Murder docketed under Criminal Case No. R-ORM-07-00258-HC with no bail recommended.
The case stemmed after the accused, according to Capt. Alfonzo, immediately fled from Matag-ob, Leyte after committing the crime during a fiesta celebration in 2008 in one of the barangays of the said town to an undisclosed place. But a relative of his victim told police that the accused was seen in Ormoc and stayed with a relative prompting them to launch an operation that led to the arrest.
The accused told police that he was in the belief that the relatives of his victim had already forgiven him and apologized for what happened 14 years ago.
The accused was brought to Matag-ob MPS for documentation and proper disposition before being turned-over to the court of origin.
