Seven (7) sachets containing suspected shabu were recovered by operatives of the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO)-Police Station 3 during a buy-bust operation around 9:15PM June 1 at Brgy. 105 (Suhi), Tacloban City.
Police Station 3 Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Major Jose Magallanes Jr. identified the suspect as Merle Calleja, 50, married, jobless, and a resident of the said barangay.
Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing suspected shabu procured by an operative for P500.00. During the body search witnesses by Brgy. Kagawad Henry A. Malate and media representative Eul Caorte, the searcher recovered another six (6) sachets containing same suspected shabu, two (2) aluminum foil, two (2) pieces drinking straw, four (4) pieces assorted lighter and one (1) unit battery-operated weighing scale. Also recovered was a P500.00 bill bearing serial number N714104 prescribed by court for the said operation.
PS3-SDET Chief Police Lt. Leo S. Silvestrece estimated the recovered evidences to weigh around 1 gram with an estimated value of P10,500.00.
The suspect refused to issue statements to the media.
Charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) were filed at the City Prosecutors Office June 2 against the suspect who was temporarily detained at the PS3 detention cell.
