A Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) detained at the Leyte Provincial Jail but escaped after the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 was finally arrested around 9:45AM February 4 at Brgy. Sta. Elena, Tanauan, Leyte.

Tanauan Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Col. Alan Camasin identified the suspect as Marlon Modesto y Berdan, 42, married and presently residing at the aforementioned barangay.

The arrest was by virtue of the Warrant of Arrest issued by Hon. Eligio P. Petilla, Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 44 in Tacloban City for the crime of Murder docketed under Criminal Case No. 2011-07-448 with no bail recommended.

Lt. Col. Camasin, in a telephone interview, disclosed that the suspect was an inmate at the Leyte Provincial Jail but managed to escape after the jail facility was totally destroyed by Yolanda in 2013. The local police had been monitoring the families of the suspect since 2013 but his presence wasn’t found. However last year, an informant tipped the operatives that the suspect is sometimes seen in the said barangay. This prompted the police to conduct surveillances that resulted to his captivity last February 4.

The suspect didn’t resist arrest and was brought to the Tanauan Municipal Police Station for documentation while waiting for the commitment order from the court the issued his warrant.
