A seven-year old Grade 1 pupil succumbed to death after reportedly bitten by a poisonous snake while heading home around 10PM January 27 at Brgy. Magbangon, Cabucgayan, Biliran.
Cabucgayan Chief-of-Police (COP) Police Lt. Teofilo Gervacio III identified the victim as Jhon Maark Mollejon, 7, Grade I pupil at the Cabucgayan Elementary School and a resident of the aforementioned barangay.
Local police disclosed that they received information that a boy had died from snakebite at Magbangon. They immediately responded to verify and upon arrival, they noticed a crowded house. Inside was a woman (the mother) crying and lamenting over a something covered by a blanket (the victim).
Initial investigation had the victim’s grandmother, Lorna Mollejon, narrates that around 10PM of January 27, the victim was at her house and was heading home. Upon reaching home, the victim told his mother, Era Nogas, that on his way home, he was bitten by a snake on his right foot. They quickly wash the bitten area, as to cleanse the bite, and lay down to sleep.
However, after an hour, the mother noticed that the victim was already motionless and lifeless prompting her to immediately rush his son to the Cabucgayan Rural Health Unit. Attending physician Dr. Julieta C. Tan, though, declared the victim dead-on-arrival.
The mourning family brought the victim back to their house and as of press time, the cadaver is yet to be embalmed.
