Five (5) suspects, including three (3) minors, were apprehended after being caught in flagrante delicto cutting telephone lines around 2:45AM of February 26 at Demeterio St., Brgy. Abgao, Maasin City.
Southern Leyte Provincial Police Office – Provincial Intelligence Division Mobile Unit (SLPPO-PIDMU) Chief Police Lt. Ariel Nuñez identified the suspects as Vincent Marquez y Consad, 35, single, a tricycle driver and a resident of Purok Camagong, Brgy. Mantahan of the said city and Francis Vic Paler y Salazar, 23, single, construction worker and a resident of Purok Talisay of Mantahan. The other three suspects include a 17-year old and 14-year old, students of Maasin City National High School, and another 17-year old student of Saint Joseph College. All three were also residents of Purok Talisay in Mantahan.
According to Lt. Nuñez, they were doing routine patrolling around the City of Maasin when, upon reaching point of incident, they ran across a group caught red-handed cutting cable wires owned by Globe Telecom. When they tried to arrest the suspects, the four (4) tried to ran away but a minor was left behind. The minor handed over the identity of his cohorts to the operatives and together with the responding tanods, the other suspects were apprehended.
Marquez and Paler are currently detained at the Maasin City Police Office while charges of theft are being readied against them. The three minors, however, are now under the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office of Maasin City while similar charges of theft will be filed against them.
