Fire torched 19 houses in Catbalogan City

Five (5) houses were burnt while fourteen (14) others were partially damaged when a fire of unknown origin broke out around 3:10PM June 7 at Purok 1, Brgy. 9 (Ubanon), Catbalogan City.


Catbalogan Fire Station Chief Investigator Senior Fire Office 1 (SFO1) Arvie A. Nacional told the police that the fire started at the house of one Rowena Agbon Arceño, of legal age. As the house was built of concrete and light materials, the fire easily spread to the nearby 18 houses. The fire started at 3:10PM, was controlled in 3:50PM and was declared totally out around 4:12PM.


The fire breached the 3rd alarm and fire trucks from the neighboring towns of Jiabong, Motiong and the FILCHAI Volunteers in Catbalogan responded to the incident.


No injuries were recorded during the incident while damage was pegged at P800, 000.00. The local fire bureau is still conducting thorough investigation as to the cause of the fire.
