A farmer and his minor accomplice were arrested by elements of the Ormoc City Police Office – Police Station 1 after mauling and stabbing their victim afternoon of October 22 at Purok 5, Brgy. Bantigue, Ormoc City.
The suspects were identified as Rogelio I. Ruiz, 48, and a farmer while the minor was a 17-year-old male. The victim was identified as Junrey C. Cetatoc, 29.
Initial investigation, with the help of a witness, disclosed that Cetatoc was in a sari-sari store to pay his debts. The suspects unsuspiciously approached the victim and without provocation mauled him. One of the assaulters stabbed the victim with a long-bladed weapon locally known as ‘sundang’ which hit the victim in his right arm. However, the victim managed to wrestle the ‘sundang’ from the suspects and defended himself.
The suspects quickly fled from the crime scene. Later on, they were arrested during a hot pursuit operation launched by the responding authorities.
Cetatoc and Ruiz were brought to the Ormoc District Hospital for physical and mental examinations while the minor was referred to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and will be subjected to a determination of discernment.
