ENRO intensifies waste segregation

Maruh Gonzales | July 6, 2022

Barangays shall assign a communal pick-up station for the residents to place their garbage, depending on the type scheduled for pick-up by the garbage trucks. This is because garbage collection is not door-to-door, as there are only thirteen (13) trucks operational, routing to 97 barangays daily.

This is the new protocol being announced by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) through its official social media page.

The collectors will not pick up the unsegregated garbage and those garbage not on scheduled. Residents can only place their garbage at the communal area early in the morning and should not be allowed to leave their trash anytime as communal areas are not dump sites. Those found dumping beyond the time of collection shall be issued a citation ticket and will be fined for three thousand pesos (P3,000.00).

The barangay will make strategy or mechanisms on how to discipline residents on the garbage collection policy. According to ENRO, there should be a barangay official assign to check on the type of garbage being placed in the communal area based on the scheduled pick up. If the garbage is not segregated, it shall be returned to the owner or the resident is obliged to segregate them.

Should ENRO found out that the barangay is not doing their task, they, too will be fined. (MREspina)
