A butcher aboard a passenger tricycle was killed while three (3) others were injured when their vehicle overturned while traversing a dilapidated road around 4:50AM June 3 along the Tacloban-Babatngon Road in Brgy. Suhi, Tacloban City.
The casualty was identified as Crispino Abaño, 54, married, a butcher, and a resident of Blk 41 Lot 31 North Hill Arbours, Brgy. 106 Sto. Niño, Tacloban City.
The injured passengers were identified as Nilda Abaño, 52, the wife of the casualty; and Jesus Novillo, 15, male, single, Grade 9 student of Tacloban City National High School and a resident of Block 74 Lot 7 of the said area. Both sustained minor injuries.
Initial investigation conducted by the responding police disclosed that the three passengers were aboard a Honda passenger tricycle bearing plate number HX6248 manned by Ronald Mortega, 39, married, tricycle driver and a resident of Zone 8, Brgy. 84 Manlurip, San Jose, Tacloban City and were traversing along the Tacloban-Babatngon Road coming from Cabalawan Junction and heading towards Babatngon area.
Upon reaching the place of incident, the driver suddenly applied front brakes of his manned vehicle while passing a dilapidated road which caused the tricycle to roll over. The overturning of the tricycle caused the victim to slam his head on the concrete road resulting to his untimely demise. The other passengers and the driver also sustained injuries.
The victims were brought to Tacloban City Hospital by the responding rescue group but the male Abaño was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The driver surrendered to the responding police and was brought to the police station along with his vehicle for proper disposition.
