A non-teaching employee of the Department of Education in this town yielded suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation conducted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) around 6:50PM January 31 at Brgy. Masagaosao, Kawayan, Biliran.
Intelligence Agent V Maria Felina M. Bacha identified the suspect as Maria S. Umpacan, 54, married, a non-teaching personnel holding an Administrative Assistant II position at DepEd-Kawayan and a resident of the aforementioned barangay. The suspect was tagged as a High Value Individual in the PDEA priority list.
Recovered from the suspect was one (1) sachet containing white crystalline substances suspected to be shabu procured by an agent in the amount of P500. During the body search witnessed by barangay officials and media, the searching agent recovered another sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu with an estimated weight of .05 and a street value of P3500. Also recovered was a P500 bill bearing serial number AX326392 prescribed by court for the said operation.
The suspect denied owning the recovered illegal evidences from her possession, saying she is a religious person who regularly visit the church and participates in church activities. Her being an employee of DepEd made it impossible for her to join any illegal activities, the suspect reasoned out.
The suspect is temporarily detained at the Kawayan Municipal Police Station while charges to violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied against her.
