Delivery truck falls in ravine in Calbayog, kills driver

A delivery truck driver succumbed to injuries when his truck fell into a 60-meter cliff after losing its brakes while traversing a sharp curve early dawn of January 17 along the Maharlika Highway of Purok 4, Brgy. Capacuhan, Oquendo District, Calbayog City.



The casualty was identified as Roel Magbutay, 40, married, a delivery truck driver and a resident of Brgy. Carayman of the said city.


Case investigator Police Corporal Marvin T. Nardo disclosed that the truck, an Isuzu Forward bearing plate number JTM-809 owned by a certain Grace Tarrayo, came from Manila hauling vegetables to be sold in the city. A passenger, a 27-year old Leonard Calipes y Dawisan of Brgy. Libertad of the same city, said that as the vehicle lost its brakes as it maneuvered into a sharp curve. With the truck loaded, the driver eventually failed to control the steering wheel and headed into the deep cliff.



Accordingly, the driver and the passenger tried to jump off the truck but multiple boulders down the cliff inflicted multiple injuries to them. The driver failed to endure the injuries and succumbed to death.


The Calbayog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO-Calbayog) responded around 5AM that morning. The casualty and the survivor was then brought to the Calbayog District Hospital.
