The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office (DA-8) has upgraded the city from ‘red-zone’ to ‘pink-zone’ and declared Ormoc City free from the African swine fever (ASF) last February 18.
To remember, the city recorded the first ASF case last June 22, 2021 and the last case was reported on July 2, that year, or a total of 226 days without reports of the ASF.
DA-8 Regional Executive Director Angel C. Enriquez, CESO III, J.D. disclosed that upon assessment and validation of the submitted documents of the LGU and with the recommendation of the Provincial Veterinary Office, the city has concurred and complied the necessary documents stipulated under the Department of Agriculture (DA) Administrative Order 7 series of 2021 of Section 4.1.1 (a to d) of Administrative Order 30 series of 2022.
Such enabled the city to be declared free from the ASF which has shattered the local hog industry since last year and has resulted to limited supply and escalated the price of pork meat in the market.
Also present during the ASF-free declaration were Bureau of Animal Industry Executive Director Dr. Reildrin G. Morales, DA-8 Assistant Regional Director Dr. Elvira Torres, officials of the Local Government Unit of Ormoc City headed by City Mayor Richard I. Gomez and personnel of the City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Arnel Corong.
