Charges of Robbery with Homicide Aggravated by Rape were filed against the arrested suspects of the killing of Jade Andre Bestudio and his girlfriend Roan Lamparas last June 14 at Calbayog City.
On June 20, 2022, Calbayog City Chief-of-Police (COP) endorsed to the Office of the Calbayog City Prosecutor the criminal complaint filed by Mr. & Mrs. Gregorio and Rosita Lamparas against the suspects identified as Glenn Baculpo, Jericho Fajardo a.k.a. Chokoy, and a minor tagged as alias Janjan.
Calbayog City lamented and mourned over the death of Jade Andre Bestudio whose dead body with a gunshot wound to the head was discovered around 10:30AM June 14 along the diversion road in Brgy. San Policarpo while his girlfriend, Roan, was found hours later, 8:30PM, dead and naked along the said diversion road under the vicinity of Brgy. Bagacay, this city.
Initial investigations disclosed that personal belongings of the victims were missing from their cadavers which opened the possibility that their deaths were attributed to robbery. Testimonies of witnesses and CCTV footages recovered during the course of the investigation revealed that the victims were last seen with the three (3) suspects; Baculpo, Fajardo and alias Janjan. These suspects are now under custody of the Calbayog City Police Station.
Jericho Payos Fajardo was arrested around 12:35AM of June 16 by the 1st Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company headed by Force Commander, Police Lt. Col. Aquilino G. Pongcol III together with the tracker team of the Regional Intelligence Division and the Calbayog CPS with the virtue of his Warrant of Arrest dated June 9, 2021 for the crime of robbery.
Meanwhile, Glenn Lampera Baculpo was arrested by the Catbalogan CPS led by Police Lt. Col. Jonathan Del Rosario together with elements of the Tarangnan Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Unit, 1st SPMFC, and the tracker team of the Regional Intellegence Division by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest for the crime of robbery which he previously committed.
Alias Janjan, on the other hand, was haunted with guilt that led him to surrender voluntarily to the authorities. In the presence of his mother, lawyer and a social worker, he confirmed their involvement in the said robbery and the subsequent murder of the victims. He also provided a particular location somewhere in Brgy. Capoocan where the belongings of Roan Lamparas were dumped. The operatives verified the information with Lamparas’ parents confirming that the belongings were of their slain daughter.
Solidifying the case against the suspects, the investigating team requested the Samar Provincial Forensic Unit for DNA examination of the seminal fluid found in the cadaver of Lamparas; ballistic cross matching of the bullet casing found near the body of Bestudio with the firearm recovered from the suspect during his arrest in Catbalogan City; and fingerprint examination on the personal belongings of Lamparas which were recovered and allegedly physically handled by the suspects during the crime.
COP Police Lt. Col. Del Rosario commended the relentless efforts of the Calbayog CPS; the teams from the Police Regional Office (PRO-8) under the stewardship of Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac; the teams from the Samar Police Provincial Officer under Provincial Director Police Col. Richard R. Saavedra; teams from the 1st SPMFC headed by Lt. Col. Pongcol III; the team from the CIDG-Samar headed by Police Lt. Liberato Yorpo; and all of their intelligence counterparts.
Lt. Col. Del Rosario added that “the community played a vital role in the investigation and information gathering of the police officers in order to locate these suspects who were then considered as the persons of interest. With the virtue of Warrant of Arrests for the crime of robbery they previously committed, they were arrested. The case build-up continued and sufficient evidence was gathered to establish their involvement in the Bestudio-Lamparas slay which is why we were able to file appropriate charges against these suspects.”
He continued to appeal to the Calbayognons and entire Samarnons to continue the spirit of collaboration and cooperation with the police authorities and immediate results of investigation will lead to efficient crime solution. He also urged the public to be vigilant enough and provide any relevant information that they believe will prevent a crime from happening.
