A female personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) assigned at the Guiuan Fire Station was apprehended by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Regional Field Unit (CIDG-RFU 8) during an entrapment operation around 1:30PM May 28 inside Robinsons Place in Marasbaras, Tacloban City.
The suspect was identified as Karla Rodriguez y Bakun, 29, BFP personnel stationed at BFP-Guiuan, and a resident of Brgy. 2, Taft, Eastern Samar.
The CIDG disclosed that the entrapment operation stemmed from complaint of one Evelyn Patajo Orbita, a BFP applicant. Orbita was said to be promised entry by the suspect into the BFP service in exchange for P150K. The CIDG also learned that the complainant has already deposited a total of P60K via GCash under the account name KARLA R.
The suspect was immediately apprehended after she received the boodle and marked money worth P51K from Orbita. Recovered from the suspect was the P50K boodle money, one (1) piece P1000 bill used as marked money and one (1) black Samsung keypad cellphone.
The CIDG also revealed that the entrapment was a referred case from F/Supt. Doroteo Claro Mocorro of BFP-8 who sought for investigative assistance after learning that his name is oftentimes used by the suspect in her extortion activities against BFP applicants.
The suspect was brought to the CIDG-RFU 8 office for documentation, booking and proper disposition prior to the filing of case.
