Ormocanon spitfire Robert Lee Bolick Jr., lends a helping hand for the Philippine national basketball team after he was added to the Gilas Pilipinas training pool that will compete in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers scheduled February 24-28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Bolick, the brightest star coming out from the now-defunct Ormoc City School Sports Organization (OCSSO), will beef a Gilas pool that will be bannered by the Tropang Giga core, naturalized player Ange Kouame and Japanese stalwarts Thirdy Ravena and Dwight Ramos.
The Gilas Pilipinas will square it off against South Korea twice, India and New Zealand in the Group A.
The pride of Brgy. Alegria, Bolick is in the thick of a very productive season in the PBA. When the PBA Governor’s Cup resumes February 11, Bolick is the league-leader in assists with 9.3 dimes per game on top of his 20.5 points which also tops all locals.
Bolick also just signed an extension with the NorthPort Batang Pier and reportedly turned down an offer to play for the Tainan TSG GhostHawks in the T1 League. The said offer was described to be “the biggest offer for an Asian import in the league so far.”
The 6-1 combo guard out of San Beda will be a favorite to make it into the final lineup as he was amongst the few bright spots for the Gilas Pilipinas team that went winless in the 2019 edition in China where he averaged 8.6 points on 46.9% shooting, 1.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 14.2 minutes.
