A member of the 14th Infantry (Avenger) Battalion part of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Bulig deployed in the Island Municipality of Limasawa rescued a boy who fell to the seawaters of Brgy. Magallanes of the said town, February 3.
Pfc Ronald Cajes was detailed at the town port when children playing in the area began shouting for help as a four (4) year old boy fell into the sea. Pfc Cajes took off his service firearm and bullets, rushed to the area and jumped to rescue the boy. The boy was later identified as Elmer Charles ‘Elmo’ Costan.
Lt. Col. Ernesto Dela Rosa, Battalion Commander of the 14th IB, lauded the heroic acts of Pfc Cajes and described him as an ‘accidental hero’. The commander said that Cajes’ snappy action saved the boy from imminent danger. The army was in full battle gear when he plunged into the seawaters to save Costan.
Pfc Cajes is presently deployed in Limasawa to assist residents who were still recovering from the onslaught of Super Typhoon Odette which battered the island last December.
His heroics were greatly appreciated as his fellows from the battalion honored him by chanting “Mabuhay Ka!”
