43rd IB turns 45

Robert C. Dejon | March 20, 2022

The 43rd Infantry (We Search) Battalion of the 8th Infantry (Stormtrooper) Division of the Philippine Army celebrated its 45th Founding Anniversary last March 2 at their command post in Brgy. Magsaysay, Lope de Vega, Northern Samar.

The said celebration was spearheaded by the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Manuel B. Degay, Jr., and was graced by the Major General Edgardo Y. De Leon, Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry Division.

In his message, Major General De Leon commended the 43IB for the “exceptional performance and contribution to the overall success of the 8th Infantry Division in our fight against insurgency particularly in the First Districts of Samar and Northern Samar.” Gen De Leon specifically lauded the unit for hurdling the challenges in clearing all conflict-affected and conflict-vulnerable barangays that were once disturbed by Front Committee 2, Sub-Regional Committee Emporium of the CPP-NPA.

He continued that the division is optimistic that before the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term, they will witness the end of insurgencies in their respective areas of operations while continuing the search of the enemies’ underground organizations that were recently declared by the Anti-Terrorism Council as terrorist organizations.

He likewise ordered to search for the members of PKM, MAKIBAKA, and KM and enlighten them that they are just victims of lies and deceptions.

Commending all the troops awarded during the celebration, he said, "The medal awarded to you is a symbol of your dedication and professionalism in the profession of soldiery. Continue to be role models to our colleagues in the service and be our inspiration to strive”, Maj General Deleon highlighted.

Lieutenant Colonel Degay stressed in his welcome remarks his unit's firm "dedication and compassion to give the best to serve wholeheartedly with the various stakeholders as well as to their comrades-in-arms from the uniformed services for the continuing support in all of our endeavors".

The celebration also honored the ultimate sacrifices of their comrades who faltered in the name of peace and service, Pfc Julius C. Reago and Cpl. Jayson P. Avestrus and two (2) CAFGU active auxiliaries, CAA Lito A. Dauba and CAA Arcito C. Reyes.
